Google Slides can readily convert presentations in other formats to a Google Slides presentation format. That means that if you are asked to change or update a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, for example, you can do it using Google Slides. Here is a step by step guide for PPT to Google Slides:
Method 1
- Open PowerPoint in google slides
- Drag your ppt into google slides- keep your drive open- open folder where you want to store your PowerPoint
- There will be a ‘drop files here ‘ in the drive
- With the drive still open, open file explore and find the PowerPoint you want to convert to google slides
- Click on the PowerPoint and drag it in to the drive
- You should see the file in your drive
- >convert your PowerPoint
- Open the file in google drive by double clicking
- Above the first slide is an icon that reads ‘open with google slides’
- Click on the arrow next to it
- Click the google slides options under the connected apps
- The presentation automatically opens in google slides, ready to be edited
- Change the file name as the PowerPoint extension will still be in the name (pptx.) and it is now in the google slides format.
- The drive will now hold two files- the one which you dragged from your file and the other which you just created
Method 2
- The second method is directly opening a blank google slides and then adding your powerpoint
- Click ‘new’ on the top left corner
- Click google slides
- A blank slides presentation should open
- Click file>open
- An ‘open a file’ tab pops up
- If the PowerPoint file you wish to convert is on your Google drive or if it is shared with you, select the My Drive or Shared with Me option from the top of the dialog box. When you’ve selected the file to be converted, click the Open button to Upload a file to be converted from our computer.
- We click the Upload option on the right side of the dialog box. The dialog box that opens is very like what we saw on Google drive in the first method:
- We could open File Explorer and drag the file to be converted into Google Slides from here if we wished.
- Alternatively you can click the Select a file from your computer linkto see a list of the files on your computer:
- Click the open button
- Your PowerPoint is now in google slides format
Important notes to remember:
- Don’t import pdfs
- Font changes may occur when you change formats
- Be careful to manage your file size when you switch
- Re-enter links when needed
